Amazonは、2006年クラウドサービスである「Amazon Web Services（AWS）」をリリースし、クラウド市場を開拓した。AWSはクラウド市場を先占し、今日まで圧倒的な占有率を確保・維持している。世界各国でスマートシティに関する取り組みが加速する中で、都市に関する膨大なデータを処理、分析するクラウドはスマートシティ事業の核心インフラだと言える。本稿では、AWSのスマートシティ関連の取り組みを調査し考察を行った。AWSは、クラウドインフラを提供し企業や公共機関のスマートシティソリューションを支えている。それに加え、公共部門向けのプログラムやサービス事業者がMarketplaceで提供している機能もスマートシティ事業を支える要素となっていた。もはや都市はアイデアさえあれば、スマートシティプラットフォームを活用し様々なサービスを構築することが可能になった。今後は集めたデータをどのように分析し、いかに人々の生活を豊かにできるのかを提案することがスマートシティ事業の肝になると考えられる。

Amazon Web Services (AWS) was launched by Amazon in 2006. AWS has pioneered the cloud market and, to date, has secured and maintained an overwhelming share of this market. With smart city initiatives accelerating around the world, cloud-based services that process and analyze vast amounts of data on cities constitute the core infrastructure of smart city projects. This report examines AWS's initiatives related to smart cities. AWS provides cloud infrastructure to support smart city solutions for both enterprise and the public sector. In addition, programs for the public sector and features provided by service providers on Marketplace, are also tailored to support smart city solutions. Cities that come up with ideas can now use smart city platforms to build a variety of services. In the future, analyzing the collected data and proposing how to enrich people's lives will be the key to smart city development.
